With 12 Mbps download speed in most areas, you’ll experience faster downloads of movies and files and faster uploads of family photos with your Exede Internet service. Plus, our faster upload speed also greatly improves video-chat with service such as Skype. One thing we cannot change is the speed of light, and the time it takes for a signal to travel to and from the satellite (known as ‘latency’). This means ‘ping’ times will be in the 700ms range, but our web acceleration technology compensate for this to make your web browsing experience feel comparable to terrestrial (non-satellite) Internet connections. This latency can have an impact on gamers, however.
Virtual Private Networks (‘VPNs’) and other remote computer access software such as those used to connect business servers to at-home workers may be very slow with Exede Internet. Some VPNs may not work at all. Other “SSL”-based VPNs may work just fine. A great way to find out is to take your VPN-equipped laptop to a local dealer and test it out. Find local dealers here.
The correct alignment of your dish with the satellite is important for maintaining the best possible service. A change in the alignment (or even a tree blocking the signal), will adversely affect your service and may even result in an inability to connect to the internet.
If the dish becomes misaligned due to activity at your location, a Customer Care agent can determine the problem, and we can correct it with a service call. Severe weather at your location, especially heavy rain, may cause a temporary interruption to your service, either through a loss of connectivity or slower speeds.
Due to the fast download and upload speeds of Exede Internet, video-chat services such as Skype or FaceTime generally perform well with our service. You’ll notice much smoother conversations with less of the annoying buffering you may have noticed over slower internet services. By the way, Skype recommends having upload and download speeds of 1.5 Mbps for HD video calling, and since Exede12 service is well above that at 12 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload, it more than meets the requirement. Apple suggests a minimum of 1 Mbps up/down for HD video calls on FaceTime.
All Exede Internet parts carry a 2-year limited warranty. Service calls under the installation limited warranty are covered for the first 90 days of service. Complete details on the Limited Warranty can be found in your Customer Agreement here.
