The Viasat WiFi Modem

The Viasat WiFi Modem, currently available in many areas, includes a built-in wireless router, Ethernet router and an integrated Voice adapter for optional home phone service. By combining a modem, wireless router, Ethernet router and a phone adapter into a single device, we’re reducing the clutter in your home while simplifying your experience.

The WiFi Modem is available for just $5/month additional on any plan.

What’s Inside the WiFi Modem?

  1. Modem. This is the primary device you need for your Viasat Internet service. The modem connects to the satellite dish on the outside of your home via a coaxial cable.
  2. Wireless Router. A router is what enables you to share your service among multiple connected devices. Instead of a stand-alone unit that requires a cable between the router and modem, this router is built into the Viasat WiFi Modem, and it enables you to create a Wi-Fi network in your home.
  3. Voice Adapter. If you have home phone service with Voice, you no longer need a separate adapter to connect to your phone or base station — it’s included in the modem. If you don’t have our home phone service, the Voice Adapter is ready to go if you ever decide you’d like to add it.
  4. 4-port Gigabit Ethernet router. If you prefer to connect your computers, laptops or other devices with an Ethernet cable, the WiFi Modem has 4 ports available. Gigabit Ethernet means that when you are transferring files, they’ll transfer as fast as a gigabit per second between compatible devices.

More about the Wireless Router

The wireless router is built right in to the WiFi Modem, so you don’t have to buy a separate device (although you can if you want to). In addition, since the Viasat WiFi Modem is an official Viasat product, we’ll offer technical support for it.

Router features

  • Selectable dual band frequency 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz connections
  • Supports Wi-Fi types 802.11 a/b/g/n
  • Wireless security: Supports WPS, WEP and WPA security standards
  • Guest network capability
  • Basic parental controls

The router built into the WiFi Modem reduces clutter on your desk or shelf and makes creating a Wi-Fi network in your home a snap. The integrated router allows you to connect multiple devices to your Viasat service: including computers, tablets, smartphones, TVs and connected-home devices like thermostats and security cameras.
