Trinidad is an historic town of about 8,000 residents just north of the New Mexico border. With its scenic location, historic architecture, easy access and a river that runs through the town, Trinidad is a great place to both live and visit. Founded by traders for its location along the Santa Fe Trail, it credits its economic beginnings to coal mining. Now, Interstate 25 carries travelers just as the trail once did. Trinidad’s unique festivals include the annual AutoCade, a collection of artfully decorated cars and festivities held each September. That’s closely followed by TrindiFest, the town’s independent film festival. Art Treks are held the last Friday of each month during the summer, evening that involve both art galleries and restaurants in a leisurely tour of art and food. The town also boasts a world-class skatepark, aquatic center, river walk, disc golf and regular golf course. All are set against the backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
