About Galena, Kansas

Situated in Cherokee County, Galena is a quaint town with a population of just over 3,000 residents. Once home to one of the world’s largest ammonium nitrate factories during WWII, the plant currently produces agricultural ammonium nitrate fertilizer under the name Jayhawk Fine Chemicals Corporation. Galena also served as inspiration for the town of “Radiator Springs” in Pixar’s movie Cars. Galena is home to the original car that served as the model for the character ‘Gator’ in the animated movie.
