About Muleshoe, Texas

Muleshoe is a small city of about 5,000 people in northwest Texas, and the county seat for Bailey County. Home to the the National Mule Memorial and the World’s Largest Muleshoe, the city’s unique name can be traced to an 1860s settler who found a mule shoe in the ground where he built a ranch and schoolhouse. In the early 1900s, construction of a railroad prompted fast growth in Muleshoe. Its population declined in the 1990s, but area leaders are now focused on rebuilding, recently passing a bond to renovate and expand the city’s schools, supporting a growing dairy industry and successfully attracting new businesses.¬†Muleshoe has all the amenities a small city could want, plus a large wildlife refuge and heritage center that lets people visit West Texas’ early days.
