Freedom: A satellite internet plan like no other

The Freedom plan features an incredible 150 gigabyte monthly data allowance. This is the first satellite internet package to provide a data package this large, and it represents the direction we want to go with our service in the future. To find out if Freedom is available where you are, just go back to the home page and type your ZIP Code into the ‘Check Availability in My Area’ space.

It’s not uncommon in the telecommunications world to have different plans and packages available in different areas, so if you’re thinking Freedom sounds pretty good but it’s not available to you yet, please be patient. We’re hard at work to bring improved plans to as many parts of the country as possible.

Q: Why are you only offering this plan in such limited areas?

A: We are offering the Freedom plan in areas where we have the highest available capacity on our satellite beams; i.e., there are not as many people on the Viasat (formerly Exede) service in these areas. That means we can offer this kind of incredible data plan without compromising service speed and quality.

As our service grows, we’ll have substantially more flexibility in terms of usage and bandwidth across the country.

Q: I live in a non-Freedom area. When will you bring this plan to where I live?

A: There is no defined timeline for this, so we ask for your patience. Our goal is to offer as much data as we can while keeping our network uncongested and at download speeds at or above 12 Mbps. If we offered the Freedom plan across our entire network at the present time, it would lead to significant network congestion, which we’re trying to avoid.

Meanwhile, our subscribers will continue to benefit from the five-hour Free Zone, which we offer on Classic and Evolution and Essential 10 plans. And customers with the Evolution plan already are benefiting from unlimited access to webpages and email that stays at our regular speeds even if Evolution and Essential plan customers exceed their data allowance for other internet activities. Q: Do I get the Free Zone if I’m on the Freedom plan?

A: No, you don’t need it. If you have the Freedom Plan, you get  an incredible 150 GB of data which you can use during all hours of the day and night. That means you don’t need to wait until the wee hours to stream movies or download software updates and other big files. For more details, please see the Bandwidth Usage Policy associated with the Freedom plan.

Q: Does the Freedom plan have a data cap?

A: The new Freedom plan provides at least 150 GB of data every month. That’s a huge amount of data. In fact, it’s so much that we think most customers won’t ever come close to using it all up every month. It’s comparable to the amount of data you’d get with an internet plan from a phone or cable company, and it’s way more than you’d get from your mobile carrier or any other satellite internet company. Per the Bandwidth Usage Policy at www.exede.com/legal, customers who do use greater than 150 GB of data during their monthly billing period will experience reduced speeds until the end of their monthly billing period, and may be contacted and asked to reduce their monthly usage below 150 GB or transition to another service plan. If a customer does neither, we may terminate service.

Q: I’m an existing Viasat subscriber in a Freedom plan area. Can I change plans to Freedom?

A: To change your plan, log in to your account and click on ‘My account.’ There are no fees to change plans.

 

Q: Can I get Freedom for my business?

A: No. Service is for residential and non-commercial use only.
