Ultra Float Advanced Dissolved Air Flotation Process

Thermodyne’s Ultra Float Advanced Dissolved Air Flotation process is the first DAF technology to utilize a plug-flow of fluid. This patented process can also precipitate much of the dissolved matter in raw waste liquids, and remove completely both suspended and precipitated matter. It produces effluents that need no further clarification and sludge that need no further dewatering.

Ultra Float is a significant improvement over conventional dissolved air flotation systems. Although it is based on well-established dissolved air flotation technology, we have made leapfrog advancements by:

1.        The flow path created by the baffles and nozzles in the Thermodyne Ultra-Float ADAF gives the wastewater a "plug flow" which maximizes separation efficiency. This means clearer effluent with dryer sludge. The baffles also minimize turbulence and back mixing which is the biggest cause of separation inefficiency in dissolved air flotation systems.

2.        The dewatering baffles of the Thermodyne Ultra-Float ADAF help the floated material dewater while at the same time prevent the skimmer from breaking up the floated matter. Conventional units often use timers to start/stop the skimmers or a "scoop" type skimmer to try to prevent sludge blanket break-up. Unfortunately, these methods cause turbulence that leads to separation inefficiency and ineffective sludge dewatering.

3.        3The Thermodyne Ultra-Float ADAF has a special air induction system using standard centrifugal pumps verses a pressurization tank. Our research shows that this system is up to 10 times more efficient in dissolving air, producing the right size bubbles for flotation, and most importantly is simple to operate and maintain. Pressure tanks can be difficult to control and level switches in pressure tanks have been known to fail. Our system does not require an air compressor.

4.        We believe in process simplicity. If a process is simple, it will be easier to install, operate and maintain. The unit is designed to be robust to process changes, and does not require fancy controls for recycle rate or level control.
